Chennai: Tamil Nadu is witnessing an atmosphere of celebration following the historic political rise of actor-turned-politician Vijay, who has now assumed office as the Chief Minister after securing a remarkable victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The development has drawn significant public attention, especially as Vijay’s controversial film Jana Nayagan reportedly faced hurdles and was unable to release earlier due to issues linked to censorship controversies. Political observers note the striking irony that while the film titled “Jana Nayagan” (“People’s Leader”) struggled to reach theatres, Vijay himself has now emerged as a real-life mass leader and head of the state government.
Reports suggest that the movie allegedly faced obstacles during the tenure of former Chief Minister M. K. Stalin amid intense political rivalry. However, Vijay’s party went on to achieve a sweeping electoral victory, paving the way for his elevation to the state’s top political office. Stalin, meanwhile, is also reported to have suffered defeat in his own constituency.
Preparations are now reportedly underway to release “Jana Nayagan” on May 28. If released as planned, it would mark a rare and historic moment in Indian cinema and politics — with the hero portrayed on screen simultaneously serving as the real-life ruler of the state.
