New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs has initiated steps to create a comprehensive database of Indian students pursuing higher education abroad. The move comes amid growing international conflicts and global security concerns, which have highlighted the need for accurate information regarding Indian nationals studying overseas.
Officials acknowledged that the government currently does not possess a fully updated and centralized record of Indian students living and studying in foreign countries. In response, the Ministry has decided to strengthen its monitoring and support mechanisms for students abroad.
As part of the initiative, awareness campaigns have been launched urging Indian students overseas to register with Indian embassies and high commissions in their respective countries. The Ministry believes that maintaining accurate records will help diplomatic missions provide quicker assistance during emergencies, conflicts, natural disasters, or other crisis situations.
The initiative is also expected to improve communication between Indian missions abroad and the student community, ensuring better coordination, safety support, and consular services for Indian citizens studying in different parts of the world.
