Chennai: The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has officially nominated senior leader J.C.D. Prabhakar as its candidate for the post of Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Prabhakar filed his nomination papers amid growing political attention surrounding the formation of the new Assembly leadership.
Thuraiyur MLA M. Ravi Shankar has been nominated as the partyās candidate for the Deputy Speaker position.
According to party sources, Chief Minister Vijay believes that Prabhakarās decades of political experience will help ensure the smooth functioning of Assembly proceedings and strengthen legislative administration.
Prabhakar began his political career with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in 1980 and was known as a close associate of former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam. He joined TVK in January 2026.
In the recent Assembly election, Prabhakar won from the Chennai Thousand Lights constituency by defeating DMK candidate Ezhilan Naganathan. At the age of 73, he is now preparing to take on the significant responsibility of serving as Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
