Beijing: Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin jointly criticised the foreign policy of the United States during a high-level summit in Beijing, warning against what they described as a “drift back to the law of the jungle” in global affairs.

The meeting between the Chinese and Russian leaders took place shortly after a visit to Beijing by former US President Donald Trump. Observers noted the notably warm exchanges between Xi and Putin, with discussions appearing broader and more strategic in nature.

In a joint statement, China and Russia pledged to strengthen cooperation in several sectors including artificial intelligence, environmental conservation, and wildlife protection involving rare species such as tigers, leopards, and pandas.

However, the two sides reportedly failed to finalise a major energy agreement concerning a proposed gas pipeline that could significantly increase Russian fossil gas exports to China. Analysts suggested that pricing disagreements remain a key obstacle.

The summit also highlighted China’s growing influence on the global stage, as world leaders continue to engage closely with Beijing amid shifting geopolitical tensions.

DPCI International Desk reports that the Beijing summit reflects the deepening strategic partnership between China and Russia, while global attention remains focused on rising geopolitical competition involving the US, China, and Russia.
