Islamabad: A court in Pakistan has sentenced 23-year-old Umar Hayat to death for the murder of 17-year-old TikTok and Instagram influencer Sana Yousaf, whose killing last year sparked widespread debate over women’s safety and online harassment.

Sana Yousaf was shot dead at her residence in Islamabad on June 2 last year. Police arrested the accused within 20 hours of the crime from Faisalabad.

According to investigators, Hayat had developed a one-sided obsession with the teenager through online interactions and later confessed to the murder. Police described the case as one involving “repeated rejection.”

Following the verdict, Sana’s father said the judgment should serve as a warning to criminals involved in violence against women.

DPCI International Desk reports that the case has once again highlighted growing concerns over stalking, online obsession, and violence against women in South Asia.
