Toronto: Toronto Police Service is facing growing controversy after multiple officers were charged in connection with corruption and organised crime investigations.
Police officials described the allegations as “serious” but declined to identify the accused officers as the cases are now before the court.
According to reports, at least eight officers have recently been charged under “Project South,” a major investigation involving allegations of bribery, leaking confidential information to criminals, assisting drug traffickers, and supporting organised crime activities.
Authorities say the scandal has caused major reputational damage to Canada’s largest municipal police force and exposed the deep influence of organised crime within the department.
DPCI International Desk reports that the ongoing investigation has raised serious concerns over police accountability and corruption within law enforcement agencies in Canada.
