A security guard who lost his life during a deadly attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego is being remembered as a hero for his courageous actions that reportedly saved many lives.
The victim was identified as Amin Abdullah, a father of eight children, according to officials from Council on American-Islamic Relations San Diego.
Authorities stated that Abdullah bravely attempted to protect worshippers during the attack carried out by two teenage assailants. San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said Abdullah’s actions were “heroic” and that he undoubtedly saved lives during the incident.
Two other victims, identified as Mansour Kaziha and Nader Awad, were also killed in the attack. Reports indicate that the teenage attackers later took their own lives.
Members of the local community described Amin Abdullah as a kind and caring individual who had served the mosque community for more than a decade. Friends and worshippers remembered him as someone deeply committed to protecting and supporting others.
The mosque released a statement calling Abdullah “a courageous man who put himself on the line for the safety of others”.
