Srinagar, July 8: A suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant was killed during a joint counter-terrorism operation by security forces in Shopian district of south Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Wednesday.

According to a police spokesperson, the operation was carried out jointly by the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

“One Lashkar terrorist was neutralised by the Special Operations Group, Shopian, in a joint operation with the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF,” the spokesperson said.

The encounter marked the culmination of a five-day-long anti-militancy operation launched by security forces in the area. Officials said the search operation had been continuing since intelligence inputs indicated the presence of militants in the region.

Security forces have intensified anti-terror operations across Jammu and Kashmir in recent months to curb militant activities. Further details regarding the identity of the deceased militant and the recovery of weapons are awaited as the operation continues.
