Washington: Israel has reportedly established a secret operational base in the Iraqi desert as part of its strategic efforts against Iran, according to a report published by The Wall Street Journal citing U.S. officials.
The report claims that the alleged operation was carried out without the knowledge of the Iraqi government, although American authorities were said to have been fully aware of the development. The revelation has raised serious concerns over regional security and sovereignty in the Middle East.
According to the report, the presence of suspicious activities in the desert first came to light after an Iraqi shepherd noticed unusually low-flying helicopters while grazing his sheep in a remote area. Sensing that something unusual was taking place, he reportedly informed Iraqi military personnel about the movements.
