  1. Kolkata / South 24 Parganas: Repolling began on Thursday across all 285 polling booths in the Falta Assembly Constituency following allegations of major irregularities during the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.

The Election Commission of India ordered a complete re-election in the constituency after reports of “severe electoral offences and subversion of the democratic process.”

Polling started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm, while counting of votes is scheduled for May 24.

The contest has now turned into a three-way fight between the BJP, Congress, and CPI(M) after TMC leader Jahangir Khan withdrew from the race, citing peace and development concerns for Falta.

BJP candidate Debangshu Panda had earlier alleged booth-level irregularities, voter intimidation, and manipulation during the previous polling process.

DPCI Political Desk reports that the repoll in Falta has become a closely watched political development amid ongoing debates over election transparency and democratic fairness in West Bengal.
