Kannur/Puducherry: The Christian community is mourning the passing of Mr. P.K.G. Panicker, affectionately known as Panicker Achayan, a devoted servant of God whose life of faith, encouragement, and commitment to the Gospel profoundly impacted many across India.
For numerous believers, Panicker Achayan was more than a mentor—he was a spiritual father who inspired and nurtured future generations of Christian workers. His unwavering commitment to evangelism and discipleship left an enduring legacy that continues to bear fruit.
Among those whose lives were transformed through his guidance is Dr. Nixan Thottan, who recalls Panicker Achayan as one of the most influential figures in his calling to evangelistic ministry.
Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Thottan shared that in 1995, he attended a month-long Gospel Camp in Thiruvalla under the leadership of renowned evangelist, singer, and songwriter Samson Kottoor. After the camp, he frequently visited the home of Panicker Achayan in Kannur. It was there, through the loving encouragement, spiritual guidance, and unwavering support of Panicker Achayan and his wife, Mrs. Valsa Panicker (Vatsa Amma), that he made the life-changing decision to join Campus Crusade for Christ and dedicate his life to evangelistic ministry.
“The positive encouragement I received from Panicker Achayan, Valsa Amma, and their daughter Vachana strengthened my faith and gave me the confidence to answer God’s call. Their love, hospitality, and prayers became a foundation for my ministry,” Dr. Thottan said.
Even after Panicker Achayan relocated from Kannur to Puducherry, the relationship continued through regular visits and fellowship. Dr. Thottan had hoped to visit him again this year, but that desire was overtaken by the news of his passing.
“Although we grieve his departure, we rejoice in the Christian hope that we shall meet again in the presence of our Lord. I believe I will once again see his warm smile in our Father’s eternal kingdom,” he added.
Panicker Achayan’s faithful life, humble service, and passion for sharing the Gospel will continue to inspire countless believers. His legacy lives on in the many lives he discipled and encouraged to faithfully serve Christ.
