India celebrated another successful day at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as weightlifter Lovepreet Singh secured a hard-fought silver medal in the men’s +110kg super-heavyweight category, while Liti claimed the gold medal.
The competition witnessed a dramatic twist when pre-event favourite Sanele Mao of Samoa failed all three of his 175kg snatch attempts, resulting in his elimination from the contest.
Lovepreet Singh, 28, who won a bronze medal in the 109kg category at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, delivered an outstanding performance in the snatch event. He successfully lifted 168kg, 173kg, and 176kg, with his final lift setting a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch.
His consistent and determined performance earned him the silver medal, adding another achievement to India’s weightlifting campaign at the Games.
