Kolkata, July 16: Trinamool Congress (TMC) chairperson Mamata Banerjee has appealed to party workers and supporters to participate in the party’s annual Martyrs’ Day rally scheduled for July 21 in Kolkata.

The rally will be held in front of the Birla Planetarium after the Calcutta High Court permitted the event at the new venue. The party had initially sought permission to organise the programme at its traditional location near Victoria House in Esplanade but was unable to secure approval.

Welcoming the court’s decision, Banerjee said the party would go ahead with the rally at the approved venue. This marks the first time in several decades that the Trinamool Congress will hold its flagship Martyrs’ Day programme away from its customary location.

The July 21 event is expected to witness heightened political activity in Kolkata, with three separate programmes being organised within a three-kilometre radius. Alongside the Trinamool Congress rally, the rebel Trinamool faction and the Congress have also announced their own Martyrs’ Day events on the same day.

The simultaneous gatherings are likely to make July 21 a significant day in West Bengal’s political calendar, as rival groups mobilise supporters across the city.
