New Delhi, July 28: Parliament’s Monsoon Session witnessed a significant development on Tuesday as the Lok Sabha commenced discussions on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, bringing an end to a week-long legislative stalemate.

Introducing the Bill, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said the proposed legislation reaffirms the Central government’s commitment to protecting the interests of students and ensuring the integrity of public examinations. He stated that the amendment aims to strengthen measures against examination malpractices and safeguard the future of young aspirants.

During the debate, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra strongly criticised the reported use of pellet guns against students during the Parliament march, questioning who had authorised such action and condemning the alleged use of excessive force on protesters.

Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju informed the House that up to 10 hours would be allocated for a detailed discussion on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.

The Bill is expected to be debated extensively in both Houses as lawmakers deliberate on measures to curb unfair practices in public examinations and strengthen confidence in the country’s examination system.
