Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said that the State government is examining the possibility of withdrawing cases registered during protests held in Kerala in support of demonstrations in New Delhi over the alleged NEET examination paper leak.

The statement came after Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan wrote to Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, requesting the withdrawal of nearly 5,000 cases filed in connection with the protests.

Mr. Chennithala said the government was not keen on pursuing cases arising from the demonstrations and was considering steps for their withdrawal. However, he clarified that cases involving serious criminal offences would be examined separately and may not be withdrawn.

The protests were held across the State in solidarity with nationwide demonstrations demanding action over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination process.

The government’s review is expected to determine which cases qualify for withdrawal while ensuring that matters involving serious allegations continue to follow due legal procedures.
