Thirteen Indian seafarers are among 15 crew members stranded aboard the cargo vessel M.V. AMIR1 at the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk in the Black Sea, amid escalating missile and drone attacks in the region.
According to the Forward Seamen’s Union of India (FSUI), the vessel is caught in a “terrible and life-threatening situation” as repeated drone and missile strikes continue to occur in the immediate vicinity of the port. The crew is reportedly living under constant fear of a direct hit while remaining unable to leave the vessel.
The FSUI has urged the Government of India and relevant authorities to take immediate steps to ensure the safe evacuation of the stranded Indian seafarers. The incident highlights the continuing risks faced by merchant shipping and maritime personnel operating in conflict-affected areas of the Black Sea.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and further updates are awaited regarding the crew’s safety and possible evacuation efforts.
